The 2025 PSTN switch off has been delayed to 2027, are you prepared?
PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) and ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) telephone lines have been the backbone of traditional telephone services for many decades, utilising circuit-switched networks to facilitate voice communication.
Back in September 2023, BT Openreach announced by the next two years it would cease all PSTN and ISDN services, shifting its customers towards advanced digital IT technologies, however, the phased switch-off has now been delayed until 2027. Already several areas local to us have given short deadlines to migrate before the services are switched off permanently.
The news isn’t all bad, however. Customers are encouraged to migrate to newer communication technologies, such as VoIP, which transmit voice and other multimedia data over the internet. The extension offers additional time for everyone to transition to new technologies and get things in place so that the transition is as smooth as possible, but not to leave it to the last minute so that there would be no time to act!
