Although we are all getting better at talking about mental health, there are still men that struggle to get the help they need.

Men are dying on average 5 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons.

A growing number of men (around 10.8M globally) are facing life with a prostate cancer diagnosis. Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men, and across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males accounting for 69% of all suicides.

In an effort to help raise awareness of men’s mental health, prostate cancer and testicular cancer, the men at Matrix IT have taken part in Movember and raised £415 in total. Everyone started with a clean-shaven face, allowing them to craft their own individual mustaches throughout the month of November.

Nic Cronin, Managing Director at Matrix IT said, “I am so proud of the team for taking part in Movember and rocking such excellent mustaches. It has been a real talking point for everyone, encouraging the team to talk about mental health and their experiences with cancer openly.”

At Matrix IT we take the health and well-being of our staff very seriously, this is why we have three Mental Health First Aiders in the business. Their role at Matrix is to act as the first point of contact for people with mental health issues, providing support and guidance to their peers. As well as being someone to talk to, our mental health first aiders also act as an advocate for mental health, helping to reduce stigmas and enact positive change.
